Celebrity News:

Teams of fast-grabbing "celebrity shoppers" generated more than $8,000 in Tri-State Food Bank donations during a charity event held Wednesday at Buehler's Buy-Low in Newburgh.

During the annual event, called the Buehler Celebrity Shopping Spree Challenge, teams made up of local media representatives had three minutes to run through the store and load their shopping carts with as many food items as possible.

The team whose groceries cost most won the competition, and all of the food was donated to the Tri-State Food Bank.

For the second straight year, the Courier & Press team won the challenge. Features Editor Ryan Reynolds and his teammate, Buehler's employee Cory Martens, loaded their cart with $2,198 in groceries.

The WEVV-CBS44 team of Tim Black and Eric Stremming took second place, and radio personalities Booker and Sarah from WSTO 96.1FM took third place.

The shopping challenge marked the beginning of Buehler's annual Tri-State Food Bank holiday collection drive. Through the end of the month, all Buehler's stores will have barrels where customers can donate items to the food bank.

"We really try to use this as kind of the springboard into the holiday period," Buehler's Director of Sales and Marketing Craig Knies said of the shopping challenge.

Tri-State Food Bank Executive Director Mary Blair said all of the Buehler's food will be given out to area families by the end of December. In an average month, she said, the Tri-State Food Bank distributes 300,000 to 400,000 pounds of food.
